Save you

You healed me
You helped to save me from myself
and set my spirit free
Gave me a new set of eyes with which to see
Instead of drowning in a sea of past events I have no power to change
You refocused my energies on a wholly more pressing range
of matters
Left my heart and mind in tatters
Shook me to my very core
Made me weep and scream and roar
You’ve kept me awake at night
Made me hold my children that little bit tighter
You helped me see the bigger picture
Helped my very soul and being shift
and rewrote my personal scripture
Helped me finally put pen back to paper
You know they say the pen is mightier than the sabre
You helped me free myself from the pointless preoccupations of privilege
Showed me where I can excercise my very own tutelage
Showed me my true strengths and weaknesses
Showed me the light and showed me what true darkness is
My sense of grief and loss due to difficult experiences is valid
But compared to your martyrdom – utterly pallid
You gave me a new sense of and renewed appreciation for community
That I will carry with me for all eternity

Gaza, you saved me
I only wish I could save you

Gaza, you saved us all
But who will save you?
