غزّة

When I should be smiling and laughing back
smiling and laughing with
I find myself welling up and fighting back a monsoon
as I gaze into the laughing eyes
and smiles of my own offspring
while visions of the lifeless and blood-streaked
eyes
mouths
and paling rigid faces and bodies
of those who are not my offspring
but my responsibility
bring me close to breaking down
