MÁITHREACHAS

Got a minute?

Imagine a system

Predicated on pumping

female bodies full of chemicals

produced in a lab

To then take the sharpest of knives

and proceed to stab

them in the abdomen

slicing through seven layers of tissue to rip open those female bodies and cut out still-growing tiny humans

not yet ready to be born

Out of their mother’s powerhouse

forcefully torn

Not yet ready to enter the world as they should: plump, blue-cheeked and cherubic

Prematurely cut out of their fluid-filled nest, dirty and quick

In the name of pseudo-safety and risk-minimization

But really as a tactic of dominance and intimidation

fear-mongering and trepidation

Stress-inducing petrification

To bend families to its will

No trace of honouring the role our bodies willingly fulfill

If we simply let them

do their work as nature’s design intended

Quivering little creatures screaming for the warmth and nurturance of their mother’s womb while the beaming

operating theatre spotlights blind their tiny eyes

Everyone ignoring their innocent primal cries Poked and prodded with sterilized

cold metal objects by the masked and rubber-gloved

Not a single one of them acting out of love Hooked up to machines unnecessarily

while their mothers hang in the balance sicktired and world-weary

All in the name of efficiency

Some might even argue efficacy

Profit-margin maximisation

The maintenance of contracts with the medical industrial complex’s big players and their professional reputation

The more slicing open and ripping out that they can muster

means the cold hard cash will line their pockets deeper and faster

Babies brought earthside vaginally

without intervention and lovingly

landing right where they should

namelyright in their mother’s arms and staying close to her powerful body

Their first and true home

All they’ve ever known

crawling naturally and unassisted

on her chest

to reach for, latch on to and suckle at her breast

is bad for business

A major hindrance

to the assembly-line model

to the ties to the companies that want newborns fed their formula in bottles

If you approve of the former description rather than the latter

I couldn’t care less if you’re an OB/GYN, medical midwife or a flipping mad hatter

You’re a misogynist in my book

Take a look

around and bid farewell to the system that drags our biology and physiology down and then schlepps it through the mud

Go back to the right kind of school and start from the grassroots

down on the ground and work your way back up

Unlearn everything they taught you in the hallowed halls of “play by the rules”

and educate yourself regarding the truth about childbirth you blind

blinkered

blundering

lying

denying

death-dealing

fools
